OCR Cambridge Technicals

Draft-mark Cambridge Technicals assignments

Cambridge Technicals units are graded against Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria — P1, M1, D1 and so on — for each learning outcome. Checking every learner's work against all of them is where the marking time goes.

VocMark reads the unit specification and your assignment, extracts the criteria, and drafts a decision on each one for every learner with the evidence it found. You review it and decide.

How it works

  1. 1

Upload the unit and the assignment

Text-based PDFs of the unit specification and the assignment you set. Edit the extracted criteria if you need to.

  2. 2

    Upload each learner's work

    PDF or Word documents.

  3. 3

    Review the draft

Met or not met per criterion, with reasoning and evidence, for the whole group on one grid.

  4. 4

    Plan the next steps

A one-page improvement plan per learner, aimed at their target grade.

Which OCR qualifications fit

  • Cambridge Technicals units graded with Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria fit well.
  • Cambridge Nationals are marked with mark bands, so they aren't a fit.
  • It drafts; the assessment decision and moderation stay with you and your centre.

Questions

Does it work with Cambridge Nationals?

Not well. Cambridge Nationals coursework is marked with mark bands rather than Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria, which is what VocMark is built for.

Does VocMark give the final grade?

No. It drafts a decision for each criterion; you review and confirm them, and the grade is yours.

How much does it cost?

There is a free trial: 5 markings to use within 14 days, no card needed. After that, plans start at £19.99 a month for 100 markings, with unlimited assignments and students. No contract.

What happens to learners' work?

VocMark doesn't send learners' names or file names to the AI: each document goes to the model labelled only "Document 1", "Document 2" and so on (anything written inside the work itself is sent as part of it). You can read how data is handled on the Schools data & AI usage page, and a Data Processing Agreement is available for schools and colleges. Read it here.
