BTEC Esports
Marking support for BTEC Esports assignments
BTEC Esports learners produce a lot of written evidence — analysis of matches and strategy, plans for events and teams, reports on health, wellbeing and the industry — and each piece has to be checked against every Pass, Merit and Distinction criterion in the brief.
VocMark reads your specification and assignment brief, extracts those criteria, and drafts a decision on each one for every learner, with the evidence it found. You check it and decide.

How it works
- 1
Upload the specification and brief
VocMark extracts every criterion with its full code and wording. Edit the list if you need to.
- 2
Upload each learner's work
Reports, analyses and plans as PDF or Word documents.
- 3
Review the draft
Met or not met for each criterion, with reasoning and the evidence it found, across the whole class on one grid.
- 4
Plan the next steps
A one-page improvement plan per learner, aimed at their target grade.
Esports evidence it can and can't read
VocMark reads the text of written evidence: reports, analyses, plans and reflective accounts. It can't watch gameplay footage, read screenshots or listen to presentations.
Where a criterion is evidenced practically — a recorded match, an observed event, a witness statement — mark that criterion yourself. You can do that on the same screen, and the overall grade updates with your decision.
Built around BTEC grading
Merit needs every Pass and every Merit criterion; Distinction needs every Pass, Merit and Distinction criterion. VocMark applies that rule to the criterion decisions, and shows Unclassified when a Pass criterion is missing rather than rounding up.
Questions
Which BTEC Esports qualifications does it work with?
Any BTEC Esports unit assessed against Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria through an assignment brief, at Level 2 or Level 3. You upload the specification and brief you teach from.
Can it mark gameplay or video evidence?
No. It reads written evidence only. Mark practical or recorded evidence yourself on the same screen.
Does it give the final grade?
No. It drafts a decision for each criterion; you review and confirm them, and the grade is yours.
How much does it cost?
There is a free trial: 5 markings to use within 14 days, no card needed. After that, plans start at £19.99 a month for 100 markings, with unlimited assignments and students. No contract.
What happens to learners' work?
VocMark doesn't send learners' names or file names to the AI: each document goes to the model labelled only "Document 1", "Document 2" and so on (anything written inside the work itself is sent as part of it). You can read how data is handled on the Schools data & AI usage page, and a Data Processing Agreement is available for schools and colleges. Read it here.
Try it on work you've already marked
Upload one assignment and one learner's work, and see whether VocMark agrees with you. It takes about ten minutes.
